Church Leader Accused of Stabbing Lover 18 Times Turns Himself In

Elias Mutugi Njeru attacked his wife leaving her in critical condition

A suspect in the attempted murder case of Florence Wanjiku Gichohi presented himself to the police early Monday morning, November 25, at Nakuru Police Station.

In a statement, the National Police Service (NPS) said that the suspect, Elias Mutugi Njeru, who is a treasurer in a church and a businessman, presented himself accompanied by his lawyer, Gakuhi Chege, from Associates Advocates.

"Today 25/11/2024 one Elias Mutugi Njeru, male adult and a suspect in the attempted murder case of Florence Wanjiku Gichohi, surrendered at Nakuru Police Station in the company of his lawyer," read a statement from the National Police Service.

At the same time, the police said the suspect had been taken back into custody and was being held pending his transfer to Menengai Police Station, where the case was first reported.

"He has been re-arrested by Police and placed in custody while appearing fit, pending collection by Menengai Police Station."

The incident happened on November 22, when Wanjiku was found in critical condition at their shared rental home in Nakuru City.

She had multiple stab wounds, with her hands being badly injured.

Preliminary investigations pointed to domestic disputes between the two, who were not only lovers but also business associates in a Nairobi real estate firm.

Consequently, reports indicate that the relationship which was once peaceful and productive, had soured over time, culminating in violence.

The police said Wanjiku was attacked and stabbed 18 times before being rushed to a hospital in critical condition.

Njeru had gone into hiding since the incident and was the subject of an arrest notice from the police, urging him to present himself to the authorities.

The church, where Njeru serves as a senior leader, distanced itself from the matter and called on law enforcers to expedite investigations.
