Odinga expressed his deep concern over what he described as arbitrary arrests, unlawful detentions, and the excessive use of force by police officers against protesters and journalists, including CNN’s Larry Madowo.
Odinga emphasized that these actions are in direct violation of the constitutional rights of Kenyans, particularly the rights to peaceful assembly, freedom of expression, and press freedom.
"These rights are fundamental pillars of our democracy, pillars that we have fought long and hard to establish and must continue to protect," Odinga stated.
The opposition leader reaffirmed his support for the Kenyan people in their ongoing struggle for justice, freedom, and the full realization of their rights.
He condemned the police's actions and called on the relevant authorities to uphold the constitutional rights of all citizens.
Additionally, he demanded the immediate release of those unjustly detained and a thorough investigation into the police misconduct.
Odinga's statement concluded with a call for unity in the fight for a just and law-abiding Kenya.
He urged the nation to remain steadfast in the pursuit of a country that respects the rule of law, protects its citizens' rights, and values a free and fair press.
"Together, we will continue this struggle, and together, we will achieve the Kenya we all deserve," Odinga said.
