Uasin Gishu Invests Ksh 250 Million in Rural Electricity As Eldoret Gears Up for City Status

Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii on Monday launched a Ksh 250 million rural electrification initiative aimed at increasing household electricity access in Uasin Gishu County.

The program, known as STIMA MASHINANI, seeks to boost electricity coverage from 65 percent to 95 percent, providing reliable energy even in the county's most remote areas.

While flagging off teams from the county and the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC), who will design and install transformers across the region, Governor Bii stated that the county government is targeting villages throughout Uasin Gishu to enhance electricity access.

"We are investing Ksh 250 million in the STIMA MASHINANI program, in partnership with REREC, to improve electricity access in our villages, ensuring reliable energy and economic growth," the Governor stated.

This effort comes as Uasin Gishu prepares for Eldoret's elevation to city status on August 15, an event that will be graced by President William Ruto.

To attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and drive economic growth, the county has introduced a comprehensive 360-degree business regulation and compliance mechanism.

This new system aims to streamline the process for investors, making it easier to bring new investments into the soon-to-be city.
