Police in Nyamira County are investigating a chilling incident where a 22-year-old Chuka University student died following a vicious beating by his uncles in Nyankono village, North Mugirango Constituency.
According to reports, the young man, Brian Mogaka, was reportedly disciplined by his uncles after his mother, Teresa Mogaka, sought their intervention.
However, what was meant to be punishment quickly turned into a tragedy.
Ikonge Assistant Chief Joseph Masese confirmed the incident, stating that Brian’s body bore multiple bruises and cane marks, indicating he had suffered a severe beating.
The uncles are said to have tied Brian's hands and legs and then mercilessly caned him repeatedly.
The brutal assault left him badly injured, and he succumbed to the beating.
Realizing what they had done, the suspects attempted to cover their tracks. They are said to have changed his clothes, placed him on a bed, and put cattle pesticide beside him to make it appear as though he had taken his own life before fleeing the scene.
Police from Ekerenyo Station on Tuesday, March 25 evening arrived at the scene with investigators and took Brian's body to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital for autopsy.
The authorities have since launched a manhunt for the uncles, who are still at large, while the investigation continues.
