National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has endorsed Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as the best candidate to replace impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
In a statement made to a group of Kikuyu elders in Tharaka Nithi, Wetang’ula praised Kindiki’s qualifications and potential to lead the country.
Wetang’ula highlighted Kindiki’s potential to steer the country in the right direction, citing his experience and commitment as key attributes.
He underscored the significance of loyalty in politics, advising Members of Parliament (MPs) and Members of County Assembly (MCAs) on the importance of being loyal to their cause and constituents.
Having worked closely with Kindiki, Wetang’ula vouched for his competence and loyalty.
“I want to tell MPs who are here, in life, there is only one currency in politics and that currency is called loyalty. Loyalty to your course, to those who elected you, to your boss, and loyalty to what we stand for. If you have no loyalty, there is no other currency in politics,” he remarked.
He stressed Kindiki’s loyalty to the Kenya Kwanza government as a key attribute.
Currently, Kindiki has not taken office because court orders are preventing his swearing-in while legal challenges regarding his impeachment are being heard.
The High Court has rejected a request for a three-judge panel to step aside from overseeing the cases that contest Kindiki’s swearing-in.
On Friday, the judges explained their decision, citing four key reasons: the principle of recusal as outlined in the Constitution, the necessity of impartiality for recusal, whether the applications demonstrated sufficient grounds for bias, and the overall merit of the applications.
