Faith Kipyegon Reigns Supreme with Dominant 1,500m Victory at Athlos NYC

Faith Kipyegon reaffirmed her status as the undisputed queen of middle-distance running with a commanding victory in the 1,500 meters at Thursday's inaugural women-only Athlos NYC.

The world record holder and three-time Olympic champion crossed the finish line in 4 minutes 4.79 seconds.

The silver went to Ethiopia's Diribe Welteji who finished in the second place in 4:05.58, with Kenyan Susan Ejore-Sanders taking third in 4:06.25 after a very competitive sprint finish.

Kipyegon and the rest of the competitors were part of the first-ever Athlos meet created by entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian to promote and elevate women's athletics.

Back by popular demand, the event held in New York's Icahn Stadium drew in a highly enthusiastic crowd to watch the finale of the athletics calendar in party style.

Winners of the events took home $60,000 in prize money, twice the normal offering from the Diamond League finale. Winners also took home a specially designed crown from Tiffany.

Kipyegon was one of the many Kenyan athletes who competed in the meeting, with Mary Moraa competing in the 800 metres.

Moraa finished second after Ethiopian Tsige Duguma emerged as the winner in a time of 1:57.43.

Aside from Kpyegon's victory, American sprinter Brittany Brown left fans and punters alike in shock with a stunning 200 meters win over Paris gold medalist Gabby Thomas.

Brown timed 22.18 seconds, with Thomas just three-hundredths of a second behind.

Athlos NYC celebrated top-tier performances with substantial prize incentives in hopes of leaving an indelible mark on women's athletics.
