President William Ruto has made his most direct remarks regarding the impeachment of his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during the swearing-in of the new Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Friday, November 1 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), Ruto expressed frustrations over the past two years.
He described his experience as “a lonely voice in the executive, especially in the presidency.”
This public comment was Ruto’s first on Gachagua’s October 17 impeachment, which saw the former deputy removed by overwhelming majorities in both the National Assembly and Senate.

Senators cited Gachagua’s alleged gross violations of the Constitution, breaches of his oath of office, and infractions under the National Cohesion and Integrity Act.
The impeachment proceedings, however, saw a number of lawmakers defend Gachagua against accusations of money laundering, with some questioning the motives behind the charges.
In his remarks, Ruto noted his expectation that Kindiki would help him fulfill duties he felt were neglected during Gachagua’s tenure.
“I am confident you will do that which I have missed in the two years,” Ruto stated, adding that he looks forward to an active partner in communicating government programs and initiatives.

At the same time, he praised Kindiki as a “dedicated, competent leader” with a record of excellence in public service and affirmed his belief in Kindiki’s commitment to Kenyans.
The Head of State voiced confidence in Kindiki’s integrity and professionalism and commended the new deputy’s eloquence and intelligence.
Kindiki, a seasoned advocate and former Interior Cabinet Secretary, is now Kenya's third deputy president since the 2010 Constitution.
His swearing-in follows a High Court decision allowing the appointment to proceed despite a legal appeal filed by Gachagua’s team challenging his ouster.
