Head of Public Service Koskei Issues New Directives to All Schools After Deadly Fire Incident

Head of Public Service, Felix Koskei, has issued an urgent directive for an immediate inspection of school infrastructures nationwide following a devastating fire at Hillside Endarasha School in Nyeri County that resulted in the tragic deaths of 21 pupils.

Koskei's call to action emphasizes a critical evaluation of safety standards in both classrooms and dormitories.

In a stern message, Koskei stressed that the Ministry of Education's quality assurance officers must rigorously check that all schools meet safety regulations.

“I am asking the Department of Quality Assurance officers and every government officer, whether in teaching or management, to ensure that the safety of our children is fully guaranteed,” Koskei stated.

Koskei stressed that the nation cannot tolerate yearly fatalities due to non-compliance with safety standards.

“We cannot afford to lose lives over failure to adhere to the safety regulations every year. We want to ensure that parents feel safe when they release their children to school,” he added.

The directive also mandates that schools strictly adhere to protocols set by the Ministry of Education, with construction projects being approved only if they align with established safety guidelines.

Koskei insisted on rigorous inspections and adherence to these regulations to prevent future tragedies.

Furthermore, Koskei assured the public that the government is committed to enforcing stringent safety measures in both public and private schools.

“We want to assure you that the government is keen to ensure that all schools, whether private or public, are managed properly,” he stated, affirming the administration's dedication to improving learning environments across the country.
