President William Ruto has announced changes in his Cabinet by changing the roles of three senior Cabinet members.
In a reshuffle announced on Saturday, December 28, this becomes part of a wider strategic effort at streamlining operations in government to ensure continuity after recent adjustments in the Cabinet.
The Ministry of Information, Communication, and Digital Economy has now been placed under the docket of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who also serves as the Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary.
This enlarged mandate places Mudavadi at the heart of areas that are very critical in Kenya's digital transformation agenda.
Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, who was in charge of the Ministry of Environment, will take on the added responsibility for the Agriculture docket-a twin charge that corresponds with the government's emphasis on climate-smart agriculture as the epicenter of food security.

At the same time, the Head of State appointed Salim Mvurya, who recently moved to the Sports docket, to the Trade Ministry.
This is viewed as a boost for the country's economic diplomacy in a bid to increase its trade partners around the globe.
Chief of Staff Felix Koskei said in a press statement that the changes were effected due to the recent changes made in Cabinet and the ongoing parliamentary vetting of new appointees.
"Following the changes effected within Cabinet on December 19, 2024, and as the Cabinet Secretary nominees undergo the requisite parliamentary approval process, His Excellency the President has assigned acting Cabinet Secretaries to the vacant ministerial portfolios," Koskei said.
The reassigned roles are in line with Article 152(5)(a) of the Constitution that gives the President the leeway to make temporary appointments for continuity in governance.
