A fire broke out on Monday, September 9 morning at Ortum Boys High School, causing significant damage to one of the school’s dormitories.

Videos and images shared online showed students running from the dormitory area, which was engulfed in thick smoke.

The incident, which occurred around 9:00 am, led to a swift response from local firefighters who managed to contain the blaze before it could spread further.

The fire, which engulfed the dormitory, caused panic among the students and staff.

Fortunately, no injuries have been reported, and all students and staff are safe.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. School officials are working closely with local authorities to determine how the fire started and to prevent future incidents.

The Ministry of Education has previously issued guidelines to enhance fire safety in schools, including the installation of firefighting equipment, proper emergency exits, and evacuation plans.

However, the recent spate of fires has reignited debates on whether these measures are being adequately implemented.

Parents and stakeholders are calling for urgent interventions to improve fire safety measures in schools to ensure the safety of students and staff.

This fire is the fourth such incident in Kenyan schools within a week, raising serious concerns about fire safety in educational institutions.

On Thursday, September 5, a fire broke out at a dormitory in Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kieni, Nyeri County which resulted in the death of 21 pupils.

According to government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura, the cause of the deadly fire has not been conclusively determined.
