President William Ruto (R) and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua |
Kenyan activist and politician Robert Alai has made explosive claims regarding Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s alleged efforts to impeach President William Ruto.
According to a statement on Monday morning by Alai, Gachagua initiated discussions surrounding the impeachment during the Limuru 3 gathering.
At this political caucus, key figures from various political factions, including former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Martha Karua, and Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, contributed to the cause.
"He initiated that from the Limuru 3 where even Uhuru sent Ksh 20 million and all including Martha Karua and Kioni contributed. Since they didn’t fully think of the Gen Z route of removing Ruto and thought of storming State House and chasing Ruto, they now want to keep the tempo of weaponising public anger," he noted.
Reports allege that Uhuru provided Ksh 20 million to fund this initiative.

Alai further alleges that Gachagua, despite Ruto’s survival of previous political onslaughts, is seeking to reignite the momentum of public dissatisfaction in order to topple the head of state.
While the initial plan to oust Ruto included strategies such as storming the State House, the plotters abandoned this radical approach in favor of leveraging public anger, particularly among the youth.
The failure to effectively strategize a youth-driven, Gen Z movement as a key part of the plan may have stalled the momentum.
However, Alai notes that Gachagua appears increasingly isolated in his efforts, with many of his former allies either distancing themselves or remaining silent.
His indecisiveness and inability to consolidate support within his camp could be one of the factors contributing to his perceived weakness.
Political insiders are now watching closely to see if Gachagua will succeed in rallying the necessary backing to move forward with the impeachment plan, or if he will be forced to abandon his ambitions due to lack of support.
