Morara Kebaso Calls for Campaign Finance Revolution to Oust Corrupt Leaders

Political activist Morara Kebaso has now called for a revolution in Kenya's culture of campaign financing, asking citizens to take charge in changing the political face of the country.

In a statement on Tuesday, September 17, Kebaso urged the creation of a movement that identifies, mentors, and funds leaders of integrity with the objective of ousting corrupt characters from office.

"We must change the culture of campaign financing in Kenya. We must identify, mentor and fund leaders of integrity to takeover power from thieves in Kenya. We must start, organize and sustain our own party or parties. We have good people in Kenya who are qualified and who are not greedy but they are unable to get opportunities to lead our nation and its institutions," Kebaso explained.

He said that even though Kenya has great laws, they are weakened by corrupt individuals in leadership, maintaining that citizens essentially "ceded democracy" to such people.

Kebaso is currently raising funds to establish an office that he hopes will serve as a venue that all Kenyans can use as a focal point for coming together and writing the future they desire.

Once set up, the office will focus on the organization of civic education activities and the advocacy for improved structures of financial management.

He appealed to his supporters to contribute through Mpesa, bank transfer, and PayPal.

While addressing critics who labeled him a conman, Kebaso defended his movement, stating that he seeks grassroots support instead of billionaire backers.

“Stop calling me a conman when I’m doing my best to build a movement that can remove corruption from power,” he stated.

He further reiterated that money raised would go toward setting up an open office; "your office, not mine."

In a related development, Kebaso was gifted a fully furnished mansion in Kahawa Sukari, Nairobi, by who he referred to as a family friend living abroad.

The mansion will serve as the headquarters for his movement, after he publicly sought a suitable property in the city.
