Uasin Gishu Lands CECM Janet Kosgei |
Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Lands, Physical Planning, and Housing Janet Kosgei has been arrested by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
According to reports, Kosgei was arrested on Wednesday, December 4 over allegations of extortion.
The arrest followed multiple complaints from the public accusing Kosgei of demanding bribes ranging from Ksh.100,000 to Ksh.300,000 for land-related services.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi stated that Kosgei was accused of overstepping her official role to control service approvals, requiring bribes as a “facilitation fee” from service seekers.

“The suspect allegedly established a culture of demanding to see and authorize all service approvals under processing even where her office has no role, and requires a facilitation fee to be paid to her by each service seeker,” Ngumbi stated.
EACC detectives from the North Rift Regional Office raided her office in Eldoret on Wednesday evening, leading to her apprehension.
During the operation, two county enforcement officers, Sergeants Geoffrey Lang’at and Jeremiah Kipkemoi, were also arrested for attempting to obstruct the EACC officers.
A scuffle reportedly ensued during the arrest, but the suspects were subdued and detained for obstruction of justice.
The three suspects are currently in custody at the EACC North Rift Regional Office, where they are undergoing processing and statement recording.
