Kaplong Secondary School is mourning the sudden death of its Chief Principal, Mr. Mike Yator, who was found dead in his residence on Tuesday, March 4, morning.
The incident was confirmed by Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) officials in Bomet.
Peter Bett, KUPPET's Vice Chair for Bomet County, visited the school and urged the community to remain calm. He extended condolences to Yator's family and friends, acknowledging the loss.
According to reports, Mr. Yator was last seen in the evening of Monday, March 3, welcoming students returning from the half-term break.
He worked up to about 9:30 PM and retired to bed, complaining slightly of fatigue.

On Tuesday morning, staff members were alerted when Mr. Yator did not show up at his office as usual.
Upon checking his residence, they discovered his lifeless body. The body was subsequently transported to Siloam Funeral Home in Kericho County.
In his condolence message, Bomet Governor described Mr. Yator a passionate and dedicated educator beloved by his students, colleagues and the entire Kaplong community.
KUPPET officials from the neighboring Kericho County, including Executive Secretary Mary Rotich and Treasurer Zablon Kipkoech Rono also extended their condolences.
Mr. Yator had been actively involved in school activities. In March 2024, he celebrated with Kaplong Boys High School's basketball team after they won the Bomet County basketball title.
He also served as the Principal of Nakuru Boys High School for more than four years before exiting.
