President Ruto Issues Directives After Tragic Nyeri School Fire Kills 17 Students

President William Ruto has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic fire that claimed the lives of 17 students at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kieni, Nyeri County.

The President has called for a swift investigation and pledged government support to the grieving families.

In a statement, President Ruto said, "Our thoughts are with the families of the children who have lost their lives in this devastating fire. We pray for a speedy recovery for the survivors and immediate action to find the cause of this tragedy. Those responsible will be held accountable."

The inferno, which broke out in one of the dormitories, left the school community devastated.

Police spokesperson Resila Onyango confirmed the death toll, noting that investigations are underway to determine the cause.

Fifteen students perished at the scene, while two others died from their injuries during hospital transfers.

President Ruto has instructed the Ministry of Interior to mobilize all necessary resources to assist the affected families.

Emergency services, disaster response units, and the police are working together to ensure survivors receive medical care and to manage the aftermath of the tragedy.

"We are mobilising all available resources under the Ministry of Interior to support the affected families. Poleni sana," President Ruto added.

A high-level investigative team, led by Deputy Director of Criminal Investigations John Onyango and the Homicide Unit, is already on the ground.

The President assured Kenyans that no stone would be left unturned in uncovering the cause of the fire.
