A deadly fire claimed the lives of 17 pupils at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kieni, Nyeri.
The inferno engulfed one of the school dormitories late last night, leaving the community reeling in shock and grief.
Resila Onyango, spokesperson for the National Police Service, confirmed the devastating news. "We have 16 pupils dead and 14 others injured. Investigations are underway to determine the cause, and appropriate action will follow," she stated.
Fifteen victims perished at the scene, with one more dying en route to the hospital.
Digital strategist Dennis Itumbi has expressed his deep sorrow following the tragic fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri, which claimed the lives of 17 pupils.
In a heartfelt statement, Itumbi shared his condolences with the grieving families and the affected school community.
“Oooh, my! Tragic. Sad. Just said a prayer for all the families and the Endarasha Academy community. God grant all peace and comfort. To the injured students, I wish you a quick recovery,” Itumbi wrote in his reaction.
However, concerns are rising that more bodies may be discovered as authorities continue to comb through the wreckage.
The Deputy Director of Criminal Investigations, John Onyango, along with Senior Assistant IG and the Director of the Homicide Unit, is leading a high-level team to the scene.
They are joined by the National Police Service Disaster Management Unit, which has cordoned off the area for further investigation.
Emergency response teams were deployed swiftly, battling to manage the situation and support the injured students.
The cause of the fire remains unclear.
