Collins Otieno at Voi Police Station following the arrest
Police in Voi have arrested a daring trafficker after a coordinated operation between detectives, traffic officers, and general duties police.
In a statement on Thursday, October 3, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) revealed that Collins Otieno Angwech, 50, was arrested after attempting to escape in a grey Voxy, registration number KCK 054X, packed with Bhang.
The trafficker made a reckless dash toward Mombasa when officers at Izera Ranch signaled him to stop, triggering an immediate high-speed chase by detectives and general duties officers.
"The trafficker, Collins Otieno Angwech, 50, was behind the wheel of a grey Voxy KCK 054X, crammed to the gills with the illicit cargo. When traffic officers near Izera Ranch signalled him to stop, Angwech, in a foolhardy move, floored the accelerator and bolted towards Mombasa," the DCI stated.
Once intercepted, the officers escorted the vehicle back to Voi Police Station, where they conducted a thorough search.
Police recovered rolls of Bhang and several sacks of the illicit drug in the vehicle.
"In the vehicle, 1,315 rolls and eight and a half sacks of Bhang, with an estimated street value of Sh7,135,500 were recovered," the statement added.
Police confirmed that the vehicle used in the crime is being held as an exhibit.
According to the police, Angwech’s case will now proceed to court as investigations continue.
