Nakuru KCSE Candidate Stabbed to Death in School Brawl, Suspects Flee

Shiners' Boys High School in Nakuru

A Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidate from Shiners' Boys High School in Nakuru has died after being stabbed during a fight with another student on Saturday night.

Gilgil Deputy County Commissioner Willy Cheboi confirmed the incident noting that the victim was rushed to Nakuru Level 6 Hospital in critical condition with severe stab wounds, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

According to the police report, the incident occurred at about 8:00 pm on Saturday, November 9, reportedly after an argument over destroyed personal belongings.

Police have mounted a manhunt for four students, including the key suspect said to have carried out the stabbing and three others who are his accomplices.

Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander Winstone Mwakio reported that some of the students who took part in the incident had been suspended from school on grounds of discipline.

"The four had been suspended for indiscipline cases," said Mwakio, who questioned the level of student indiscipline in the school.

According to him, the students returned to sit for their KCSE exams only to find that their belongings had been damaged.

Suspecting the deceased student to be responsible, they confronted him, and the dispute escalated into the fatal attack.

The main suspect is said to have fled the scene with the knife he used in the attack.

Police who were dispatched promptly are still searching for the suspects, who fled into nearby thickets.

During a press briefing, police voiced their concern over how students managed to access a deadly weapon within the school compound.

"We can't tell how they acquired the knife but the students there are notorious", an official said.

Investigations are ongoing and the body of the deceased has been moved to the Nakuru morgue for post-mortem.
