Why I Am Convinced My Bomas Attack Was No Accident – Morara Kebaso

Lawyer Morara Kebaso

Lawyer and political activist Morara Kebaso has spoken about the attack he suffered at the Bomas of Kenya on a day when the Joint Committee on Delegated Legislation conducted public participation regarding the impeachment motion of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

On Monday, in an interview with Spice FM, Kebaso recounted the chilling events that preceded his brutal assault, which, he now thinks was planned well before he even came near the venue.

According to Morara, he had attended the forum as an ordinary Kenyan and wanted to make a contribution, adding that his security was compromised upon arrival.

The police at first barred him from entering the venue, only allowing him in after public outcry and intervention by a senior officer.

While he gained entry, his security team was scaled down to just one who accompanied him into the venue, a decision that made him vulnerable.

The activist was emphatic that his stance on the impeachment of both President William Ruto and Deputy President Gachagua had made certain individuals uncomfortable.

This position, which he had publicly announced before attending the event, may have been a key factor in the orchestrated attack.

He said despite the public urging him to speak, the event's emcee, TJ Kajwang', resisted, suspecting that Kebaso would disrupt the proceedings.

When Kebaso was finally allowed to have the floor, mayhem ensued.

He recounted how he was set upon by several unidentified goons emerging from behind the dais, which started hurling metallic chairs at him and his bodyguard.

The seriousness of the assault meant he was injured, and couldn't escape as the exits were reported to have been locked, and over 30 metallic chairs had been used in the assault, leaving his bodyguard injured.

Kebaso has since attempted to connect the dots of what he may have missed as red flags before the incident.

"I keep reviewing what happened, asking myself where I think this was a security failure, and wondering whether the police were an active participant in the attack," he angrily wondered.

The activist remains resolute in his pursuit of justice despite the heinous attack captured on live television.

He urged the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to take immediate action and apprehend the perpetrators, insisting that the footage clearly shows the identities of the attackers.
