Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi |
Kapsaret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has defended President William Ruto and other politicians for making donations in church despite public criticism.
In a video shared on his social media platforms on Tuesday, November 19, Sudi argued that politicians were not at fault for participating in harambees (fundraising events).
He attributed their involvement to local church leaders' requests for financial support for various projects.
"The Bishops are unhappy and now want to refund the money donated to the church. I want to ask for forgiveness because sometimes we go straight to the local churches without going through them," Sudi said, adding, "I don't understand where the problem is."
The MP emphasized that politicians are Christian community members and have the right to contribute to the church.

He urged church leaders to forgive any perceived wrongdoings and to continue guiding political leaders.
This statement follows an announcement by the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi that the church would reject donations made by President Ruto and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja during a service on Sunday.
Archbishop Philip Anyolo cited public concern as the reason for the decision.
The uproar stemmed from questions raised by Kenyans about why the President had contravened his earlier directive barring government officials from making public donations in church.
Sudi dismissed the criticism, stating that local pastors and believers often rely on contributions, which sometimes strain their resources.
"Those local pastors and believers are the ones who make contributions until some of them run away because they have to contribute every Sunday. I wonder why someone would oppose help being offered in the local churches," he remarked.
