Police in Nyeri County are searching for a university student suspected of fatally stabbing his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day.

According to reports, the fatal attack occurred on Friday, February 14 and was linked to a relationship dispute.

The victim, 21-year-old Bonita Ngatha Kariuki, was a first-year Education student at Karatina University.

According to police, Bonita spent most of the day with the suspect, 25-year-old Kelvin Nyagah, who is also a first-year student at the institution.

The two had reportedly taken part in a photo shoot earlier in the day before heading to Nyagah’s hostel room, where the tragic incident occurred.

Mathira East Sub-County Police Commander Samson Leweri confirmed the attack, stating that Nyagah fled immediately after the stabbing.

Two of his roommates have been arrested to assist with the investigation.

Police reports indicate that Bonita was last seen entering Nyagah’s hostel just hours before she was found dead.

Detectives suspect that the attack might have been caused by a love quarrel, but the attack's motive remains uncertain.

Her body was moved to the Karatina Level Five Hospital morgue, where a post-mortem examination will be done to help reconstruct the circumstances of her death.

The authorities have guaranteed that they are doing all they can to apprehend the suspect and bring closure to the bereaved family.
