Hard-core Raila Odinga supporter Nuru Okanga has gone wild on social media to celebrate the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
The excitement was so deep in Okanga to the extent that he undressed during a presser in celebration of the move by the Senate, which he seemed to view as some sort of political landmark.
While speaking after the impechment, Okanga articulated his satisfaction with Gachagua's removal, attributing his joy to the Deputy President's previous remarks about shareholding, which he deemed inappropriate.
“Mimi nilisema lazima wakenya wajue Gachagua ameenda nyumbani. Niko na furaha kwa sababu tumepeleka mtu ambaye alisema Kenya ni kampuni Mathira,” (I said that Kenyans must know Gachagua is going home. I am happy because we have sent away someone who said Kenya is a company).
The impeachment of Gachagua occurred on Thursday, October 17, 2024, when the Senate found him guilty of five out of eleven charges brought against him.
Gachagua becomes the first Deputy President to be impeached since the promulgation of the 2010 Constitution.

The motion for impeachment was introduced in the National Assembly by Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse, garnering support from 281 MPs, while 44 opposed the motion.
Gachagua has been in office for 766 days since his inauguration on September 13, 2022.
In light of Gachagua's impeachment, President William Ruto nominated Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki to assume the Deputy President position and was approved by Parliament following a vote.
Kindiki has received clearance from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and has also been vetted by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB), the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), and the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
Should Kindiki receive parliamentary approval, he will become Kenya’s third Deputy President under the 2010 Constitution.
