The Orange Democratic Movement's National Executive Committee (NEC) has concluded its two-day meeting in Mombasa.
The party said in a statement on Sunday, October 13 that among the major resolutions adopted by the committee were those touching on party leadership and ideological recommitments, as well as a raft of national issues.
Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o was appointed as Acting Party Leader assisted by three Deputy Party Leaders including Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir.
H.E. Gladys Wanga was confirmed as the National Chairperson.
"The NEC ratified the following nominations: H.E. Prof. Anyang' Nyong'o as Acting Party Leader, Deputy Party Leaders: H.E. Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir, H.E. Simba Arati, and Hon. Senator Geoffrey Osotsi, H.E. Gladys Wanga as National Chairperson, Senator Hamida Kibwana as a Member of the National Elections Coordinating Committee," the statement read in part.
The NEC has stressed the commitment of ODM to the social democracy ideology and undertakes to carry on with its social justice programs.
The party said it had reiterated commitments to the promotion of these core values in its political activities.
The NEC demanded the withdrawal of criminal cases filed against Kenyans who took part in the protests.
They also called for compensation for the injured protest victims and compensation to the next-of-kin people killed by the police.
The NEC demanded accountability for state officials involved in brutalities, abductions, and killings of protesters.
The NEC condemned the arrest of the Tana River Governor H.E Dhahdo Godana, calling on adherence to the rule of law, stressing that any law enforcement and investigations be done with humane methods.
The NEC resolved to roll out a program marking the 20th anniversary of ODM, activities that will be geared at consolidating the party's presence in the country and mobilizing at the grassroots levels.
